The Outpost

...is a group led by guitarist extraordinaire Glenn Alexander and featuring multi reed man Bob Magnuson, innovative drummer Matt Wilson and the incomparable Kermit Driscoll on electric & Acoustic bass.

The music encompasses a wide range, from original compositions to jazz standards, blues, country, down-home skank with a smattering of the avant-garde, but always heavily steeped in improvisation.

Each musician draws on their extraordinary and extensive background to form a blend of music that is fresh, unique and that can stylistically change directions in an instant. There are no dull moments in this musical journey.

Glenn Alexander -- guitar

Glenn Alexander, a Midwesterner from the plains of Maize Kansas, he cut his teeth (musically speaking) in Wichita and is best known for his many solo instrumental releases in the jazz idiom. He has toured as both a sideman and solo artist all over the globe including Japan & Australia, has performed at numerous festivals & venues including Carnegie Hall, The Blue Note and the Kool Jazz Fest. As a leader he has received world wide airplay, international acclaim and success on recordings "Glenn Alexander", "Rainbows Revenge", "Oria" and the "Connection" a co-led super group featuring T Lavitz, Danny Gottlieb & bassist Dave LaRue. He has also recorded or performed with Chico Hamilton, L Shankar & The Epidemics, Phoebe Snow, Bob Dylan and Mary Fahl to name a few, produced "Time Changes" for the Legendary Jerry Hahn, recorded solo jazz guitar for Paul Simon and performed on countless commercials and film scores including Spike Lee's "Four Little Girls".

Bob Magnuson -- Saxophones, Oboe, English horn, Flutes, Clarinets, Ethnic flutes, EWI and WX7 wind synthesizers

Bob Magnuson, has recorded and performed with popular artists Whitney Houston, Patti Austin, Phoebe Snow, Cleo Laine, Marc Cohn, Michael Bolton, B.B. King, Issac Hayes, Eddie Murphy, Expose, and Frank Zappa's Universe and played on the soundtracks of hundreds of televison commercial campaigns including Coca Cola, Macy's, AT&T, J.C. Penney and Chevrolet. As a studio musician Bob has enjoyed playing next to saxophone greats David Sanborn, Lenny Picket, Michael Brecker, Lee Konitz, and Ronnie Cuber. His professional career supports his love for jazz and ethnic musics. Constant study is his passion. His personal discography as a leader includes Ready For Action, The Sunlight, Street News, Higher Plains, Over The Edge, Omens, Large Music, Creative Catalysts and his band Aura - Kindred Souls.

Matt Wilson -- drums

Matt Wilson's musical sensibilities lie somewhere between the country and the city, the sublime and the superfluous, the avant-garde and the mainstream. Although born in Illinois, he too is a musical product of Wichita Ks. His sideman credits include Dewey Redman, Lee Konitz and Cecil McBee and he was an integral part of the Either/Orchestra working along side Charlie Kohlhase. He has also performed and or recorded with Joanne Brackeen, Fred Hersch, Marty Ehrlich, Sam Newsome, Vic Juris and Thomas Chapin to name a few. His own CDs such as "As Wave Follows Wave", "Smile" and "Going Once, Going Twice" have earned him numerous awards such as "New Artist" by the New York Jazz Critics circle high ratings in the readers polls, countless national magazine interviews and praise and respect from his peers & colleagues.

Kermit Driscoll -- acoustic & electric bass

Kermit Driscoll is probably best known for his tenure, recording (ten recordings) and touring the world with guitarist Bill Frisell, working along side Joey Baron and Hank Roberts. Another Midwestern musician from the fields of Nebraska, Kermit has recorded and or performed with a wide array of jazz superstars including Chet Baker, John Zorn and Tim Berne. He has also graced recordings and concerts by Dave Douglas, Henry Kaiser, Billy Drews, David Johansen, Wayne Horvitz and so many others as wells as working with some of the most brilliant, creative producers and engineers in the business such as Lee Townsend, James Farber and Michael MacDonald.
